Hunter Biden whistleblowers’ allegations refuted by Prosecutor David Weiss

[ad_1]

[The revolutionary prosecutor in charge of the Hunter Biden tax investigation addressed allegations of misconduct by the Justice Department, stating that although he discussed the possibility of filing charges outside of Delaware, where he is based, with other officials, he was not denied that option. The letter, written by Delaware U.S. Attorney David Weiss, is the latest development in a dispute that arose after two IRS agents claimed that Justice officials hindered their investigation of the president’s son. The tensions between the Justice Department, FBI, and IRS regarding the handling of the Hunter Biden investigation escalated as Biden agreed to plead guilty to misdemeanor tax charges and illegal possession of a gun. The plea deal, scheduled later this month, would drop the gun charge if Biden complies with probation and other conditions. Prior to reaching the plea deal, an IRS supervisory agent named Gary Shapley brought his complaints to Congress, alleging that Justice Department officials impeded a more serious tax case against Biden. Among his complaints was that Weiss stated during an October meeting that he did not have the authority to decide whether charges should be filed, and that U.S. Attorney Matthew Graves in Washington, D.C. would not allow Biden to be charged there. Shapley also claimed that Weiss requested to be appointed as a special counsel but was denied. Congressional Republicans have used these allegations to support their claims that the Biden Justice Department has failed to pursue allegations of wrongdoing against the Biden family. In response, Weiss wrote a letter to Sen. Lindsey Graham, stating that he never requested to be appointed as a special counsel, but did have discussions regarding a possible appointment that would allow him to file charges outside of his jurisdiction. He also stated that he has never been denied the authority to bring charges in any jurisdiction. Shapley’s lawyers issued a statement arguing that any involvement of Biden appointees in discussions of the Hunter Biden investigation is problematic. The disputes between the parties are ongoing, with senior law enforcement officials finding themselves in the midst of a public war of words.
