The struggle against police violence, particularly targeting immigrant communities, has endured throughout history. In the autumn of 1961, the ruling authorities ruthlessly repressed thousands of dissenting voices fighting against colonialism that had converged upon Paris amidst the Algerian War. Recognized as the Paris Massacre, this heartrending event remains deeply ingrained in the collective memory of France’s Arab and Muslim communities. Approximately 200 individuals lost their lives – mercilessly gunned down, cruelly suffocated, or callously thrown into the depths of the Seine River.

Throughout the years, the French government concealed these heinous acts, shielding them from public scrutiny.
